Non modded vs Modded (MK319 M.Joly mod)

I hear nothing but good things about the mods that Michael Joly does. I would, however, LOVE to hear a direct comparison shootout between a non modded and modded version of the mic.

I guess a perfect test would have the mic record the exact same source with no variables. The test would have to include some source like a cd player with the same track through decent speakers at the same volume. The mics would have to be switched out without moving the mount or stand and the volumes would have to be matched before printing the results.

It seems pretty simple, but I don't have a modded mic yet. I've got 2 MK319's that I'm about to send off. That would make up my mind, I think.

Thanks.

I think Michael has a comparison or two on his site. Go check it out OktavaMod - Affordable Boutique Microphones.

i plan on it

the only problem is that all the shootouts are the modded mics against a similar high end mic. I just want to hear the modded mic against the stock version of itself. Looking forward...believe me. I'm all about doing it. I'm just a little hesitant. Unlike my name, I am not Filthy Rich. I need to spend wisely. I just invested in 8 SCA preamps and I still need to treat my room and buy a snake and monitors and a build a few more cables. When...oh when...will it end? I suspect never.

go to this site:

OktavaMod - Affordable Boutique Microphones

there is a comparison between a stock 219 and a premium electronics on a acoustic guitar. that should give you what you want to hear....

I might go for the 219 mod myself. I want some LDC's to use on toms and these won't break the bank.

Oktava sure is making alot of new mics as of late that look interesting.

For toms I highly recommend the CAD M179 mics. I have a Joly modded 219 and although it's nice it doesn't work as well on toms as the M179 does. My 219 is actually in need of some repair...it seems to have developed a strange buzz.

Thanks Brad. I was thinking of the 219 since it was very affordable. I've heard those CAD's are supposed to be nice on toms. I like my Sony C38 on floor tom but trying to find another 1 or 2 of those would be a pricey endeavour.
