Any consumer speakers good as mains??

I checked out the JBL Studio series 312's at Best Buy and thought they sounded pretty good.

What would you recommend as big mains, for under $1000 for the pair (dosn't have to be consumer grade, but they are cheaper.)

Any consumer speakers sound good as mains??

No. Not as mains.

The Magnaplanners are pretty k-rad elite as a mid field of sorts. Very akward of a metter bridge, but I hooked tie lines into a lounge once and found myself checking my mixes out there MUCH MORE than I expected.

Anything you're used to and you're comfortable listening to will work. There was a significant period of recorded music when AR "home speakers" were a kind of standard... so it's not the first time this subject has reared it's ugly head.
