help me ditch my 001

ok so I have a digi 001 as my main interface in my home studio and I'm wanting to upgrade. I have noticed since I got the dm24 I don't use the A/D or D/A off the 001and I mainly just use it to mix itb. Then one day I decided to try to send stems out of the adats through the dm24 and mix the tracks with the dm24 to to a standalone burner and now I don't even want to use the bouce to disk feature of the 001 cause the clock and converters and stereo spread are better in the tascam. Add in the fact that the upgrade to xp has somehow killed all my plugin ability from 20 full plugins a mix to less then 5 before failure and it randomly crashes and has to restart in the middle of the session I'm at my wits end. I would like an alternative to ptle I also use sony acid 4.0 and the mix down feature and plug in count is extremly better I'm currious if I get a decent interface and perhaps a uad projects card if I could use that to mix with using the tascam effectivly or if I would need a daw with fader automation instead of draw your volume curve editing. the automation on the tascam is combersome but it makes a great hui emulator

here is what i was looking at

Tascam FW1804 about $400 street and uad1
digi mbox the cheap one and a alesis hd24
digi 002 the 3 looks like crap to me
presonus firestudio & uad1
motu 8 pre & uad1

any ideas?

RME Fireface 400 or 800, Cubase SX 3 or Cubase 4, 2 UAD-1 cards =

This is where I landed when I ditched my 001. I'm very happy I made the change.

had a motu 1224 after i ditched the digi 001. only 48k, but a lot of people have a soft spot for that box. i don't rock it any more, but to be honest, the 001 is a pretty weak piece of gear, there's a lot of stuff out there that beats it up and down the street.

so I've noticed I just pulled out an old korg 168 rc digital mixer and the A/D and D/A are alot better then the 001 and its 20bit. I'm starting to feel the burn here I mixed on this box for years and now that I can tell that the 001 put alot of low end mud in my mixes I'm realising how much harder I had to work to achive a good sound with this box I wouldn't of had to if I could here what went in instead of the coloration of the A/D D/A and poor internal clock live and learn I guess.
