Looking around at my DA88, DAT, and ADATS the other day.....

I realized I have not touched them for about a year. What should I do? Are they worth keeping around or are they Ebay food? Hmmmm.... decisions.

Do you have any space available? Then how about using the ADATs and the like as a songwriter's room? You could rent out the room and make some money with the equipment that way.

If that doesn't float your boat... since you are a business, you could give the equipment to a local school and use the tax write-off. Probably better money than ebay... and you'll get more biz as a result (in the long term view.)

I think the better question to ask is why aren't they being used? Then, what can be done to use them? I used to use Adat's all the time now it's just a handful of times a year as a recorder. Most of the time they're just I/O for the DAW. I also run DAT tapes while cutting basic tracks and sometimes while doing solos & vocals. It's great to be able to go back to a previous take that was long ago erased to get ideas from or just for outtakes.

All you need to make a record is a mic, some tape and maybe some bad reverb...
