Placing studio monitors on their sides...

Just wondering if anyone knows of a technical reason why you may not want to place monitors on their sides instead of standing them up with the tweeters up.

On my mixing desk, my tweeters are too high when they're standing up, so I'm always craning to make sure my head is in the right place. So I lowered my chair a bit and put the speakers on their sides with the tweeters on the outside, and it seems to be working ok. They sound a bit different, but I would expect that. Just not sure if my mixes are going to translate as well. Of course, time will tell - but I thought I'd check in and see if anyone knows anything I should know...

I did have a conversation with a fella at work who knows a fair amount about this sort of thing and he said that all speakers have a null point by design - and usually it's straight down toward the ground when the speaker is standing up. That would mean that the null point is now basically pointed at the other speaker...

hmm... such important thoughts for a Friday afternoon...

From the Event ASP8 manual:

"The cabinets can sit vertically or horizontally so long as both cabinets are situated in the same direction. To maximize the 'sweet spot' we recommend that the cabinets be oriented vertically. If you choose to place them in a horizontal position, orient the cabinets with the high frequency drivers pointing to the outside, away from each other."
