Auratone on guitar cab

Did a quick experiment micing a guitar cab with an Auratone speaker in combination with a SM57. The 57 was not chosen for any other reason than it was already close by on a stand.

I just wanted to hear the auratone combined with a mic with more bite and poor low end.

I kinnda like the result, it makes the 57 sound deeper, adding dimension and low end.

I will experiment more with placement and combinations with different mics but I'd like to hear your thoughts on this very fast experiment.

stike Don't comment the playing stike

Wave files attached, let me know what you think.

PS. The auratone is eq-ed a little, adding high-mids and top. It does not sound that bright without eq.

Forgot... both the auratone and the 57 are about one inch from the cabinet, on axis, the 57 between the cone and the edge and the auratone pretty much in the middle of the other speaker (it's a 2x12 cab).

Interesting. I thought the Auratone by itself would have been darker than it was. I like the result of the two combined.

I've done this as well; also on kick drum. I used an Avantone, though. It's nothing like using a woofer because it's a full-range driver. Also, it's more efficent so it seems to have more output.

Funny, I was just thinking about send some elements (voice, gtr, drum, mmmh bass m8b?) thru:
apogee-> pcp -> vox ac30 -> avantone (which is I think a bitte more open on the spectre than aurotone) -> mic (sm57 or u87, all I v here).

It's just the other way around, but did somebody already try this?

For the the voice I think about a kind of depoper deesser presence effect...

I just stuck two SM57's in my ears to use as headphones.

Didn't sound very good- but I had a build up of wax that needed clearing.

At one point we had a Marshall 100w head plugged into one Avantone and mic'd it with another Avantone. I was surprised the Avantone never blew up; it just started getting really compressed.

But yeah, running stuff through 'em is a good idea. there's an Auratone IR on Revolver, incendentally.

I'm thinking 'bout ac30 for the presence in the midrange.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
I'm also keener to use 88.1 khz when I go in/out. For me the anti-aliasing filter start to create some noticeable phase/frequency issues when multiple ad/da conversion occur at 44.1, it's particularly obvious for the voice (or the OH, but OH stays inside in this case
