I'm not certain what you mean. How long has it been gone? How long since you last sung? And do you mean by "gone"?

I've had various permutations of similar problems down the years myself too. The first thing I'd suggest is to not push it. It's only been 5 days, it usually takes me a fair bit longer for my voice to return to use-able. I usually find that my head resonance increases and my range goes up for about a week after I feel well again. I've actually used it as a sound on one or two tracks! I'd love to say go get yourself some lemsip and hot water but they've never done much for me. You could possibly try manuka honey, put it in your mouth and hold your head up with out swallowing. The idea is to let it slide down as slowly as possible. It won't help your vocal cords but it is a very powerful and natural anti-bacteriant and great for germs in the throat. If you need a natural boost I'd say go for Spirulina. It's the only supplement I take that I can feel a clear differnece between when I take it and when I don't. Be warned, neither of these products come cheap, at least not here in Ireland anyway.

voice rest is the most important thing to do.
if it's a virus, it'll have to run it's course.
drink plenty of fluids.
breath some steam.
if you have to, go to a doctor and get a dose pack of methylprednisolone which is a steriod.
hope you get well soon.

Believe it or not - don't speak. Talking, even at a quiet volume, will delay getting it back. Get a notepad and write for communication with others. Lots of fluids.

These links will help point you in the right direction. I suggest researching and learning all you can about your instruments' biological mechanics from trained and reputable sources. Knowledge is certainly power, not to mention the best medicine for your recovery and longevity in general. Get well soon!

A ton of information can be found with a little patience and whole lot of Google:

for your bronchitis:

some sites with a lot of FAQ's to read:

http://www.voicelesson.com/html/faq/index.htm

( this guy has a book called 'The Rock & Roll Singer's Survival Manual' which covers a lot of what goes on inside your body and how it affects your singing both positively and/or negatively... it's good to have around no matter what your style of singing, just to refresh yourself with from time to time)

I just took time out until I was ready to sing again, and... hey! It really works!

It took me about two weeks, by the way.

You say "i've lost my voice".

As a pro singer with 20 years of experience and having chonic bronchitis, here's some advice.

First of all, realize you haven't "lost" your voice, your vocal chords are full of phlegm. So whatever you do, don't push it and actually hurt your voice for real. Straining your vocal chords will only make the problem worse.

Besides that, I recommend sleeping in a small room with more than one really good humidifier. You might have to break down and actually get antibiotics (if you have a gig coming up, if not, tough it out).

When you're coughing shit up, green is bad, yellow is better, white is best.

Don't you wish you had a lung brush? Good luck and get better soon.

Stay hydrated. Take a good multivitamin. Avoid dairy products. Start back into it slowly. Don't damage your pipes while they're in this tender state.
