Rme/DAC-1

hi, just wanted to ask if the DAC-1 is connected coaxially to an RME PCI(multi-face) does the RME play a role in the DAC-1's overall quality, what if the soundcard was a different one? a lynx or whatever? would anyone suggest using this setup or not?
and i suppose that with this scenario the signals assigned to different outputs inside Logic's mixer or etc which then are directed to Totalmix(RME's software mixer before physical outs), the digital summing would happen in Totalmix right ?i think yes, so would the soundcard make a difference?i know im repeating myself ,but just want to be clear..

thanks guys, im abit confused and can really use your help, all that analog summing stuff mentioned here before got me thinking?

The soundcard wouldn't make a difference if it's operating properly. I have an RME HDSP 9652 with a dac-1 and it sounds great. The summing would be done in logic and the output would then go to the rme -> dac-1. That brings up an interesting point though. Usually you assign the master buss to say spdif 1 & 2 / adat 1 & 2 if you're going to the dac-1, I wonder if you would notice a difference if every channel had a different output channel in your recording software, and a mixer like the totalmix software would then sum. I imagine the summing buss of logic / nuendo in my case would be made differently from that of the totalmix software. Never thought of that. People bitch about digital summing and analog was the way, but I imagine if the totalmix would sound that much better, someone would have caught on awhile ago.

it is kinda interesting... if logic/etc is assigned to different outs and totalmix software does the summing ...hum...got to experiment tonite... but im glad to hear that the soundcard wouldnt make a difference in any case with the DAC-1,well except maybe for its software !!!thanks Frist....
