Looking for a 1000-1500$ mic

I'm looking for a condenser or tube microphone around 1000-1500$. To narrow down my test options I thought I'd ask the forum what you recommend. I'll mainly use it for vocal, but maybe also acoustic guitar or drums (I.e. an all-round workhorse would be nice). I looked into the Peluso 2247LE. Haven't tried it since I can only order it, but that powersupply seems like a hassle to drag around. I sometimes travel and would like to bring a small kit with me.

The pres I have are:
fireface 800
presonus adl 600

You should be able to get 2-5 really decent mics for that much money.

Do you already have a couple dozen mics ? Do you have an endowment with specific terms?

Do you know what sort of sound you are after and what mics sound best on your voice that you have tried?

I don't have many mics, no. I'm kind of taking the route "few expensive pieces", rather than a lot of stuff . Maybe that's controvercial. Anyway, I currently only have a Rode NT1, a Shure sm81. a sm57 and a sm58. I'm probably buying another sm81 as well to record acoustic gutiar in stereo and maybe piano/drum overhead. (It's for my DIY singer/songwriter project). As I'm not totally happy with the nt1 on my vocal I'm looking to upgrade that part. I need to test the mics of course, but not really sure where to start. I've tried an AT4040 and a TLM103, but they were a bit bright to my ear.

I have a Blue Blueberry that I'll let go for $800. Great condenser mic. Works great on vocals and is stellar of acoustic piano. Cheers

I have the 2247LE and it's great for vocals and guitar. Keep in mind that it comes with a handy and attractive carrying case!

U195 is a great choice. Another possibility would be a Gefell M930. When I bought my U195 I auditioned it against an M930, and it was a photo finish. The U195 was a little more versatile, but the M930 was very sweet.

M-Audio Sputnik is killer and well below your cost. You can probably afford to get 2 for that kinda money. The mic sounds very very nice regardless of cost. I was shocked when I first heard it.

Well, they aren't expensive enough, but if the AT4040 and the TLM103 were too bright, you might want to try:

RE20
SM7
AT4047
CAD M177
Heil PR30

Don't forget the SDCs - that SM81 might just be the ticket.....

Either way, you should probably have an RE20 or and SM7 - even if you don't use them for your vocal.

I personally have recently gone with (asides from cheap dynamics):

AT4060
(2) Shinybox Ribbons

Seems to do the trick for me!

I'm not going to get much that's esoteric. I'll probably get a RE20 and an SM7 soon, and perhaps that new AT dual diaphram kickdrum mic (already have a D112, but that will go to the floor tom)
