NEW QUAD CORE MACS

Well they rolled them out today. Surprising that they added a layer and left the previous models at the same price point. I think a lot were expecting them to follow thier traditional trend and phase the lower model out. Too bad, I was kind of waiting for that.

This machine must scream!

There have been some very interesting post as of late on the Nuendo and Cubase boards and apparently Steiny has quite got the hang of properly using Intel multiple core CPU's. From what I remember not even Sonar had figured it out 100% yet.

Some initial tests on Reaper apparently yielded much better results. I would be very curious if any of the mac based programs (i.e. Logic etc...) fare any better, my suspicion is telling me that many of these problems will persist. Apparently the problem was not as noticeable with Dual-Dual cores but became more glaring with Dual Quads.

I have no doubt that the next incarnation of Logic will maximize the processors. It will take Digi a while, a very long while as it eats away at HD. I find it very interesting that they released this upgrade prior to Leopard as well. I would never buy the top of the line model, I usually get excited about a revision because this traditionally drove the prices down on the previous top of the line model. Too bad that didn't happen this time.

I think I will stay for now with my Mac Pro dual dual.

Sonar has fully support multi CPU and multi core for several years now. Also if you look a the load balancing the process load is spread across multiple cpu's very evenly.
