Guitar preamp for extreme heavy music

Hello, I need some guitar preamp for using with speaker simulator (or integrated) for recording. Iīm thinking about TECH 21 PSA1.1, or at same price there is LINE6 POD XT PRO. Or any real tube preamp? Iīm interested mainly on that rectifier or other very heavily distorted sounds for metal/industrial rhytm guitar (chunks, wall of sounds like that on Rammsteinīs "Klavier" etc.)... I have Amplitude 2, ReValver and GuitarRig, but Iīm not fully satisfied with the results... I have limited budget. So can you recommend me something?

For insanely distorted tracks a pod or even the behringer thingy would be usable. I don't say it will be like the real thing (a properly mic'ed cab with a Recto, good guitar with able player) but it gets you closer. But remember, if you want to sound like this or that - you better get the gear this or that used.
You can PM me for some item.

I think Rammstein has a Line 6 endorsement, if i remember correctly, but their sound SOUNDS a lot like a Rectifier or something like that.

Yeah, but dude, it doesnt sound like a deizel or an engl. If you want that tone, get a diezel or an engl. There are some pieces that can produce an ungodly metal tone. Digitech processors are good for this, but the quality isnt that great. Bottom line is if you want to sound like the best, you have to get the best. A great metal amp is a 5150. It wont break the bank. You can get em used for around the price of a new pod pro. Its worth it.

90% of my metal sounds come from a 90's Fender Prosonic combo.

The remaining 10% come from the Line 6 Pod Pro XT- using a Metal Shop expansion amp called "ANGEL P-Ball" which is based on an ENGL '02 Powerball.
It is a really good tone for the ultra heavy stuff.

For the extreme metal genres I prefer solid state or digital sounds- they are quicker to respond- the tube lag simply doesn't suit it and the song quickly degrenerates into a soggy mess.

The solid state/digital sound is its own thing though- trying to make solid state into a 'tube' sound is a waste of time. If I want a tube amp I have 1/2 a dozen here that I can use.
The POD has its place- and the Pod Pro XT is the best sounding- if you can DI the guitar and use it via AES/EBU then all the better.
Line 6's converters and clock are pretty crap- I'd love Black Lion to do an upgade for them.

Tip: use it in mono and double/triple track the guitars.
Another tip: process it in the analog domain- I'll sometimes treat the POD with the Vipre and a Summit or D&R compressor, especially for textural background stuff.

Haha...I won't mention names or places, but I was setting up for basics of this very famous band, who was recording with a very famous producer. The guitar players gear showed up, he was standing in for the normal guitar player, and I started popping the tops off of things. The second case I opened up had this guys Line 6 cabinet and head. I paused for a minute and then asked the producer if he still wanted the me to set the guitar players rig like he instructed. He looked at it for two seconds and told me "I don't care what you do as long as it ends up in a dog house." (Ultimately, I new he was going to was a different amp.) He then added to get him a real amp for tomorrow.

Engl E530 is 450-470$ a tube preamp. If you want a good miced amp
I'd run that with Carvin S-100 with tube poweramp through
an Avatar Cabinet. Avatarspeakers.com

For Cheaper nice amps = Peavey Valveking through a good cab can work.
Use peaveys off ebay like the Ultra.

I like the crate V32 stuff its good for general rock, not always the sound for metal though.
