Cubase SX emergency

My latest project just won't record audio. When I open another project it works fine though. I was looking at some of the functions I don't normally use and did inadvertantly hit the unmute all button. I'm wondering if I did something else too. I've gone back over the manual but nothing is jumping out at me. Any tips?

It will physically go into record, and I know the soundcard is fine because I can hear it and it will work and record in another project.

I've never experienced such a function in Cubase. Definitely check your Device setup....I've found cubase to be quite finicky about the audio drivers...often defaulting to the internal soundcard even though my interface is plugged in and working fine.

oh. well you replied before I finished replying so my last post was apparently useless. When it drops into record, does it create empty regions or just nothingness?

Help?!

It's now a fresh new work day and I still haven't got my system working. I can open two projects, in one everything works fine, in the other Cubase isn't registering any audio input at all (although I can hear it).

I really need to sort this out. Anyone?

Check the VST connection and see if the input assignment is right?

I did and it's as it always was and the same as the projects that work fine.

Try saving the project under a different name. If that doesn't work, try "save project to new folder." Sometimes this helps with projects that don't open correctly. Its saved my ass a couple of times.

Beastmaster: Yes, it is.

Reflexon: I know that trick although I didn't hink in something like this it would help. I'll try it though. I haven't been able to record anything all day, not good, not good at all.

Great tips... Have any of these tips helped??

Also try reseting the audio card itself.... What type of interface are you using??

I'm using a LynxOne. I thought of reseting the card but it works fine on other Cubase projects.

I would consider it, but the amount of times my freinds have called me with problems with their PT set ups far out weighs mine.

No that's my point exactly... I've had an issue like this before....

Each project has it's own individual amount of processing needed based on the amount of tracks, plug-ins, automation, etc... you get my drift.... So the project you're speaking of may be more demanding than anything else... Maybe...

So what i'm suggesting "within Cubase" is to go to Devices, Device setup, VST audiobay, ASIO Driver... and reset it... Depending on your card you may have to increase the buffer substantially to allow it to play the file... but this in theory should work.... because other projects work with the same card, correct... and if not recheck all inputs/outputs ... for that "particular session"... Remember, that each session is unique and it can be saved differently.... all it took is one slip up to throw everything off..... Let me know...

Preferences

Don't forget to go into the preferences under the file section. There might have been something that accidently got toggled on or off.

Your eply had me scuttling with my laptop into the studio. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to have done anything this time.

If you create a new project, can you record to it?

Might be something to do with sample rate or bit depth, too.

Does the project in question play back ok, through the lynx?

It sounds like it has to be a setting somewhere, you probably just need to go through the preferences, vst setup stuff, etc, and keep trying things.

Good luck!

Yes, new projects are fine and the project plays back fine through the lynx. I think you might be right about a setting somewhere. I just don't know which one might be doing this. It's killing me!

kclisby: No worries, all feedback wanted so thanks.

Since it is an emergency for you, how about "export tracks" from the problematic project? You just import the track archive to a new project file with the same tempo, and hopefully you can get your song going...
