Mount a boom arm on the ceiling. Alot of swinging adjustments.

With the items here and parts from a normal mic stand / boom arm / long goose neck, you can mount a mic on the ceiling (if you have a solid ceiling with studs you can screw into) http://www.atlassound.com/products/s...group=19&grp=3 Keep in mind that permanently bolting a solid mic stand to the ceiling could be about as inconvienient and dangerous as bolting one to the floor! One of these might work for you too : Audio-Technica's AT8451 Wire Hanger Adapter for Overhead Microphones http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...list&sku=68154 |

So hang you mic where you don't bump into it too much. As we were starting out as teenagers we couldn't afford a mic stand so i taped the (plastic) mic at the handle of a Hoover vacuum cleaner - i wish i had a pic. Did I mention this Hoover had a footswitch we could engage in the chorus...?

I used a bunch of junk I had laying around. I put a plank of wood across the ceiling joists in the garage and drilled two holes through the plank and the drywall and through a second plank that goes up against the ceiling for extra support. I ran two long threaded rods through and bolted a piece of rack rail to it that acts as the cross piece. The rods BTW were are used to hold lids on 55 gallon drums. I scrounged them from work. The metal tubes that cover the threaded rod are just cut from an old shower curtain rod. They also allow me to draw the whole thing up tight. The bits that hold the booms to the cross piece are from a couple of CAD drum mic mounts. I took them apart and used what I needed. The booms are just standard mic booms. It is very sturdy although I want to replace the rack rail with some angle iron. The rack rail has a little bit of twist to it. You might not have all of those parts laying around but just like me if you use your imagination you can come up with something |
