Thread Starter | EQ for main monitors - Anybody use it?
I know, I know. You shouldn't. But I would like to try it. I'm thinking parametric, as opposed to graphic. There's two frequency regions I need to address: Adding a bump somewhere around 150 and a dip somewhwere in the mid harshness. Yeah, it's horn loaded hf drivers Anybody tried this in recent history? Are there any digital EQ:s that don't have excessive latency? |

![]() Another big problem is any improvement you achieve at one location will make things worse somewhere else, even a few inches away. I've written extensively on this, and here's my most recent article: http://www.realtraps.com/art_audyssey.htm --Ethan

the big main monitors, yes, we use eq. Near fields, no. and like ethan said, dont eq the room.

treat the room. eq on monitors (additional hardware) generally doesnt work at all. sometimes built in bass or treble "tilt" can help, if used carefully, a bit Last edited by mixerguy; 27th March 2007 at 06:50 PM.. Reason: addition |

I made a custom pair of 3-way midfields... my enclosure design kind of sucked, so I had big problems at 1.25K and 200-250hz. Strategic use of a 1/3 octave graphic made them good and useable. Short of redesigning the cabinet, what else can I do? And no, I would never EQ real monitors. |

Thank you all for your input! To clariyfy, it's the speakers I want to EQ, not the room. They're Altec Model 19's with horn loaded tweeters, and they sound pretty harsh around 3-4 kHz. While at it, i thought I'd add a little oomf (100-150 Hz) which this speaker lacks. They are not used for critical listening, but rather for tracking guitars, bass etc. in the CR. The judgements are done in nearfields. Any tips for clean 2-4 band parametric/sweep EQ without latency? |

first adjust the crossovers on the speakes for optimal happieness..that around 800hz horn thing can be annoying then eq using the common 1 db down at 3k , -3 at 5k to bet -8 to 12 at 10k curve..get the bottom flat down to 40 and slope off if things look too choppy there might be room nulls [that are deep and narrow bandwdth and unfixable by eq,,you'll only screw up the freq around the null] use your ears at this point..what the analizer is showing and what is really heard can be 2 diff things in most of my day we only used passive eq ing ..today i can't tell you..the last eq's were the ones auxberger recommeded they were active and i only futzed with then a little bit... after you are done with the pink noise analaiztion ,,put up a nice fat snare loop with snare wires...tweak the left right symetry from that WITH YOUR EARS and ignore the analizer after this..and ya should be good to go..do a check every 6 months hope this helps..i voiced all our rooms for a decade..kinda always laughed inside about people who wanted FLAT speakers | |
