LA2A/1176 question

For those who have either an LA2A or an 1176, what would say you would set the gaina nd the peak reduction on the LA2A and the same plus the ratio on the 1176 to get about a 3db reduction? I know it depends on a million things, but say for an average. Is the peak reduction usually around 1-20 (LA2A) or 70-80?

On the 1176 in 4:1 i would set the input at about -33. That gives me the feeling I have the mic pre working at a good level.

Thanks, where would you usually set the make up gain at on he 1176?

the knobs usually sit as such: output around 9-10 0'clock, gain reduction from 11 - 1 o'clock.
