| Lives for gear | Take 4 weeks in a "big studio" with a hired-gun tracking engineer/producer with big credits and a pile of "house gear" -- instruments, rented and otherwise as well as all the vintage and modern audio gear you can stand, and, as if THAT'S not enough, you've got A-list session pros on call and a mixer with major release credits in your genre waiting for your tracks. Will you make a legendary record? What's stopping you? And if that sounds like a "fantasy" situation, consider that a 5-member band with each member socking away $100/week (the equivalent of the entire band teaching 3-4 guitar/bass/drum lessons on Saturday morning) could raise enough funding for this in a year and a half -- instead of trying to figure out whether the 57 or the 421 sounds better going into their Digi 002's... Or a forward-looking producer could put together this sort of situation for a production deal, wait for the "right" artist to produce, and come out looking like a genius -- with the "hired gun" doing the majority of the critical work. I'm not picking on you personally -- I'm using the occasion to point out that (I believe) the majority of creative musical people who do recording (esp. people ON THIS FORUM) won't admit it, but they're way more intrigued by the PROCESS than the PRODUCT.

| Some of us are concerned about the art of it all. But, I think the era of the huge studio is coming to a close. The only thing that they have is (usually) a nice room to record in and a list of people to call in. Other than that, you can do a good job without spending $10mil on equipment these days. All you need is some skill and a bit of experience. But there is nostalgia..... -tINY |

| lol...I just never had some of these shredding VHS-Tapes...the only old video I found was "Tuck Andress" ...so I guess I´m not into the typical guitar styles, but I know many people love EVH I´ve also seen Steve Lukather a few times and wasn´t SOOO overwhelmed with his music. The 2 people that left my mouth open were: Tuck Andress (Tuck & Patti) live....OMG and Michael Landau !!! after watching him with the Raging Honkies I literally thought about never ever touching a guitar again.....lol....amazing player!!!
