Audio interface advice

At present my recording set up includes an O2R96 console connected via ADAT optical cables (24 channels) to my Mackie HDR24/96. I'm also running Cubase for sequencing duties on PC. I've decided to ditch the Mackie and record into Cubase but want still to be able to mix on the Yamaha. I'm tied to Cubase for a variety of reasons.

Presuming money is no object, which audio interfaces would give me stellar quality and maintain my 24 channels of ADAT I/O (I've spent quite a bit on the ADAT cards for the Yamaha so want to keep that mode of connection)?

Any suggestion/advice would be much appreciated.

The only thing I can think of that has 24 ch. of Adat is the Motu2408.
But it's not stellar quality.
Do you plan to do the AD conversion on the 02R, what about Preamps,
do you have external ones.
I guess if you record straight from the 02R, the conversion quality doesn't really matter..

24 channels of adat is a tricky one, but stellar quality, affordable price: Metric Halo 2882. You could daisy chain 3 of them and get 24 analog, 24 adat and still have digital I/O to spare. Great quality, and great software integration. Check em out.

Check out Sydec Audio Engineering. I've provided a link below. Several other options are available from these same people. They work hand in hand with Solid State Logic, Neve, Harrison, Studer and others. Top of the line stuff at very affordable prices.

Thanks very much for this info and advice.

Is the Motu 2408 not up to the same standard in terms of quality as the others that are mentioned?

This is an easy one, surprised nobody has got it yet ...

You need an RME Digiface ...

http://www.rme-audio.com/english/hdsp/digifa.htm

... which connects to either a PCI or Cardbus card ...

http://www.rme-audio.com/english/hdsp/cardpci.htm

... and that's it. RME makes high quality stuff, and this gets you everything you need to make a full-on tape deck out of Cubase.

My more general advice would be never to be loyal to gear just because you already own it. Your "investment" is already sunk. Figure out your best overall situation for the cash it would require, including realistic estimates for selling current unneeded gear, and move.

Check out Sydec, or Metric Halo 2882 both top of the line. They make the others listed look like toys. Big difference in pro-sumer and pro gear. Final decision will be yours however.

RME makes great stuff, hard to go wrong with that.

As an alternative, have you thought of upgrading the converters on the HD24 to make it an HD24XR (I think the upgrade is called EC-2, something like that)? Those are stellar converters, and they are a great buy for the price. I use the HD24XR as a converter bank as well as an outboard recorder, and I wouldn't want to part with it ...

Okay - I've now moved on from my initial post and am looking at replacing the PC with a Mac Pro and using Logic. I've budgeted £2000 for the interface, and as stated before, I need to connect the 24 channels of ADAT from the O2R96 and back so I can use the console for mixing.

The RME Digiface looks to be a fantastic deal in terms of price. For my setup I could spend the rest of the money left from the £2000 budget on an external clock (Big Ben) or external convertors. What would you do to improve on the O2R+Digiface+Mac/Logic combo?

I ought to mention that I am also using a DAV BG8 pre connected to the inserts of the O2R.
