Gallo

He's somewhat of a filmmaker. He did Buffalo 66 with my favorite porcine actress, Christina Ricci. Good movie. He also did some of the music for that film.

He more recently did Brown Bunny, in which he "did" Chloe Sevigny, one of my favourite actresses, porcine or otherwise. dfegad Terrible movie.

He's a professional starf*cker, all round egotist, and believes variously that he is the greatest writer/musician/filmmaker that's ever lived - but that didn't stop Brown Bunny from being laughed out of Cannes last year. What is incontrovertibly true is that he has is own line of chocolates, has been in a "band" with Jean-Michel Basquiat (80's artist), and seems to spend his time slagging off everyone he's ever worked with or may work with.

But he does have a studio full of clapped out gear that he admits himself isn't working half the time, so we have something in common

I just got word from someone, who asks to remain unnamed here, that a link to this was emailed to Vincent Gallo's email address off of his website. Lets see if he has the guts to chime in. Give it a day or so.

(((Sorry, I couldn't resist.)))

buffalo '66 is beautiful- the nearing-end strip-club sequence is one for the books- 35mm, music, lack-of-speed, matrix-like, yet tight budget and all.

brown bunny is great also, just a little slower moving. gotta love the long ride to the old hood and such.

I always thought he was pretty talented and I try not to believe the hype about peoples' personalities in the business as anything bad they do as a normal human gets inflated and twisted, plus the guy is a major gearslut, so who could find fault in that?

It's a lot of cool stuff, but...I'm sorry. Like, that looks like a total pain in the ass to work in. Not only are the EQ's scattered across the room, it's all vintage gear. Vintage mixers as old as the 80's are a real grind. I can't imagine operating my studio through only 10-20 vintage channels. Give me a vintage outboard, but I want seemless and functional routing.

People who don't own vintage gear drool over it, but people who own it know what a bitch it is to keep certain units running. It's really bondage after a while.

I have a cool amount of gear, but after it's spent this much time sitting around being unusable, I realize how much I can get done and make sound solid without it.

Then I think 'wow, maybe I should sell it'...If it worked.

Good and working is 100 times better than great and nosiy or buzzy or shorting out or...

2 bits,
-soup
