| Room mic strategies/techniques...? I'd like to start a discussion on how you slutz are using room and ambience mics when you record drums. The studio I work in has a 1000sqft live room with 9ft ceilings, carpeted, with painted plasterboard walls and a drum trap with 8ft baffles and dampened ceiling, adjoining a 500sqft stone room. I've been experimenting with room mics in different places and configurations lately, and I want to hear how other people would (and do) go about using them. Cheers Al |

| Walk around the room while the drummer plays and find a spot that sounds good. Put a mic there. |

| What he said, but block one ear if your placing a single mic. A hypercardioid by the kit with a baffle in between it and the kit with the mic pointing away from the kit is good in smaller rooms.

| For most sessions i use 3 room mics, One is in front of the kit at about waist height U87 or LDC Tube mic the other 2 are as far as i can get them away and usually facing the wall, SDCs, U87s or other LDCs even 57s Have fun and experiment ![]()
