New Post search limited to 250 posts

Hi,

For the last few months the 'new posts' feature seems to have been limited to 250 posts. There used to be several pages to skim through first thing in the morning but now lots of posts seem to slip under the radar.

Has this been done to reduce server load ? can we have it back to how it was ?

email notification isn't working

My email notification went belly up. That's the way I keep in touch with my threads of interest, but since the new upgrade whatever thing that happened with Meg this weekend, email notification hasn't worked at all. I seem to have the correct email notification selected in optoins. How can I fix this? Is it out for everybody?

I've found it's been a bit flakey of late - occasional emails (about 75%) come through.

Yeah well it's not working at all for me. And a couple of things I was subscribed to have been dropped altogether from the "User CP" -- one thankfully so because the topic and a few posters suffer from severe mental retardation.

Search Funtion Acting Strange. . .Broken?

So . . . . . ..
Maybe its due to the database errors or something, but
the search function is not working for all titles/searches.

For example if I put in API or KRK in the dialogue box for
the search, it will tell me that it can't find anything, which
is obvously wrong because those two should get a lot of hits.

However, if I put in Neve or Radar the search engine works.

What gives??? Is this something on my end that I am doing wrong??

Help!

You might ask the powers that be for confirmation, but I don' t think the GS (or perhaps vBulletin) search engine will search for words with 3 letters or fewer.

One option is to try operators in your searches... for instance, an asterisk following the search term will include any string in place of the asterisk. So, api* would net you any post with "api," "apiece," "apish" and so on. If you wanted to exclude "apiece" and "apish" from that search, add a minus directly before those terms.. so, with this example, here's your search:
Code:
api* -apiece -apish
If it's a common term like api, you might try searching tags, but I don't know if older threads (pre-tag feature) would be included.

Google is a useful alternative. Go to google, type in your search term(s) followed by
Code:
site:gearslutz.com
So, if you wanted to find api and god in the same thread, you'd search for
Code:
api god site:gearslutz.com
And here's a nice "cheat sheet" for google search, if it's needed:

Can't search forums with three characters anymore???

I thought for sure that just last week I was able to do forum searches with just three characters (like PMC, BAE, API etc) but now it returns no results (4 character words work ok)

Is it just me or????

yes its really enoying, i was trying to find out more about the "urs api eq " and i get nothing. i think from the way this board is performing that it has been moved to a new server and not set up right, its slow as hell.

Did it ever allow for 3-letter searches?

I don't want to make a habit of quoting myself, but here's a reply to the same issue from a couple of days ago:

It sure did.

Well I guess it's not that big a deal. This is only gearslutz. How important could it be to search API, AKG, RCA, U47, U67, U87, M49, SM7, 414, 451, 121, 251, C12, GML, AEA, R84, TG2, TG1, EMI, DAW, MAC, RNC, 737, 192, 500, V72, EMT, 140, PCM, DBX, 160..??

(my brain hurtz)

Searching with an asterix works, like this; API* or ADT*

I deleted my post because dingo allready answered the question

Kinda works. 1 return for "api* and u99*". I've made a bunch of posts with with api and u99 myself. Nothing comes up for jdi* and api*. I guess those 2 have never been in a thread together.

I feel like I'm on a mission, with nuttin better to do. Is there a new method to searching? I missed the memo. Someone fill me in.
