Studer A80 Problem

Wrong forum?

Turned on my A80 - I've got power to the tape guide light and the light for the varispeed, but none to the transport or any of the individual channels... A blown fuse? Armageddon? Any ideas?

Do you have the owners manual? Have you tried the Studer list?

Off the top of my head it sounds like a blown fuse or something in the transport supply. Have you checked the caps? Could be a resistor too though they don't usually go bad. Maybe the rectifier? I dunno...time to break out the manual and multi-meter.

Wait, just rereading this...does the transport work or is it just the lights that are out?

It might be a fuse but chances are good it isn't. Has the deck, specificly the power supplys, been recapped since Regan was in the White House? If not, I'd start checking there and pray that a cap didn't explode and shoot it's goo over the boards...

Either way you're gonna need to RTFM and get the multi-meter out. If the only kind of meter you've ever used is a parking meter you should call a tech.

Best of luck,
