Air Conditioning / Studio question

My "control room" ( basically an acoustically treated spare bedroom ) gets just stupid hot w/ all the gear and bodies in there. Even w/ the home's thermostat set to 68-70, that 12x14 room gets pretty warm. With spring / summer coming, I need a plan

I'm looking into portable spot coolers / or wall air conditioning units

Does anyone have any experience w/ these ?? I'm wondering about NOISE mostly - I've already got noise from the computer's fan and hard drives. I would like something really quiet - yet effective

Any slutz experienced in this area ??

A mini split ac unit is what you need. They range in price, but really simple to install, Pretty quiet, at least quieter than a window unit. Power and one small hole through to the outside unit is all that is needed. We have one in a converted garage and it works great. Cool & heat.

Here is one unit.

Yeah, I bought a portable AC unit because the description said it was whisper quiet. It's anything but. If I'm tracking myself in the control room, forget about having it on. If I'm tracking someone else in the iso booth, I can use it but it's still annoying. It's really not going to be fully functional unless the AC unit is outside of the room.

The issue is moving air. If you have a fan, you have noise. How much you can accept is the question.

If you can spend some $$. Then you want to pipe in the air from someplace else via ducts.

and then baffle the ducts...

mechanical noise from the generating source is the main issue then the air and what it excites during its journey..

ehh i am old

there was a window AC at our studio when we had 10% of the POP top 100 list on Billboard for a number of years

i want my room quiet too..three 90 deg curves inna boxed enclousure sinificantly reduces SPL..then ya gotta deal with air pressure differnces between room if you have a multi room envirnoment

Why add extra noise to your room. Tell your clients to bring their bathing suit, and everyone can record and work in there boxers. haha jk but you would save alot of money and alot less noise that way. The only bad thing is that noone is really wearing clothes so you might have some extra reflections added cause of all the bare skin

Mini splits are great. I have one in my control room and one in my live room. They are pretty quiet not silent just the sound of the fan in the unit, the condensor etc. are outside on a brick pad. They also have heat pumps in them as well for winter. I don't know what the prices are now but I purchased a12000btu and a 9000btu last year on Ebey for $1100 shipped and cost me $550 to have an HVAC guy instal them. My old control room at my old house was just a Walmart window unit $80 or so a bit noisy but I didn't track in the control room.
