Thread Starter | lost in liquidmix, which emulation for what?
Hi, Actually I'm the "try it out" type, but my Liquidmix has just to much to try out and at this time I'm a little too busy for it. I'm completely lost in all the emulations. as long as I just had my 4 or 5 VST compressors and EQs I had no problem with choice, since I knew them well to use for what ever... But now I have more than 50 different characteristics to choose from, and I don't know most of the hardware that is being emulated. I would really appreciate some tips like: this hardware is great for fast signals, or voices, or percussion or anything or this hardware was just crap, why use the emulation... or mainly used in "jazz" or what ever you know about that stuff. You know what I mean? Ok, heres the list, first the name of the preset, then the hardware that is being emulated. do a search on the real deals, see what THEY use em for, write that down and try em out on the same instruments in your mix....im in the same boat as you, havnt used the liquid mix much yet as the gui dosnt have the same feel as most plugins (its nice to see a real pic on your screen) and this backwards buzz is a pisser (some of the eq's etc) unless your used to the real deal....although if you/me were used to them we probably wouldnt be using the lm at all....hopefully version 2 will sort that out a bit....if it ever arrives!!!!!!!

I wonder if the Liquid Mix has emulations of older gear getting funky quirks and failing, developing hums and buzzes, scratchy pots, and then you have to send it back to the Virtual 1950's Repair Shop where they dress up in old lab coats and play re-runs of "I Love Lucy" while they pretend to work on it with old rare oscilliscopes and...

Sheesh! I dunno.. just switch around fast, use your ears and hope you have a patient performers! It may take you several sessions to find your favorite combinations..its the same with analog gear - there is a finite amount of time you get to experiment if working with an artist before they get worn out with the proses. You could always save 'good ones' in a bank of user store pre sets as you go, then do final evaluations by switching through those stored combinations.

hye man i love my liquid mix thats for sure, I use api 550b´s on distorted guitars, i love what they do in the mids, and squashthem either with the distressor emulation or try the manley slam in very fast attack and clip release, it does something reaaaallly agressive, snares i use the dbx 165, sonds great, la3 on toms, la2 on bass or cl1b, kick really depends on what kind of kick i need. but i like the fairchild or 1176 overheads i usually dont compress but eq wise it changes form time to time. rooom mics just play around, an don the mix buss i like pultecs and mixbuss ala CLA (not quite the same as having hte real deal tho but hey here in colombia its as close as i have gotten) or the massive passive and the ssl mix buss comp try them out tell me what you think
