Sony MXP-2900 - Anyone used one?

Local guy has one for $1000k. I'm currently using a Sony MXP-390, and I'm actually happy with it. The 2900 looks modular, so I'd consider stepping up if it's worth it. The EQ is probably better. I don't use the EQ on my 390 all that often.

So is this a decent sounding board?
Same components as the 2000? VCA Comps?
Wass the deal?

Thanks,

Sleepwalker are you in the Chicago area?
Apparently the 2900 is still available...

Can ANYONE comment on this mixer???
I'm looking at buying a 20/4/2 frame to use as my main desk for my Pro Tools rig. This would be my 1st desk as I am now completely ITB, so of course comparisons with high end desks wont stand, but still...

For tracking, it's pres would be used in conjunction with a few boutique outboard and for mixing I would try both ITB and OTB/summing schemes. What do you think of the pre's and EQ? What about those VCA comps?
Also, is it true the psu can be a problem?

Many thanks,

Little bro to 3000 series. Main diff: features designed for use in broadcast. Like 3000 series, they had a transformerless design and used hybrids that once fail, are unreplaceable. Transformers were available as an option though, as mine has on all ins and outs, which seems to not suffer from the problem. Mine sounds as one would expect it to sound when new.
One problem is that if you aren't paying attention, you might be sending the channel to the group compressors, causing a degradation in natural transients. If you really want the board to sound good, take out the compressor channel and send the strip to me and I can dispose of it properly. I'll even give you $20.
