Thread Starter | Control Room Flooring?
I have a small (9 x 12) control room in my home where I will do more mixing (with the future possibility of some mastering) than anything else. I believe I have all that I need for wall and ceiling treatment (bass traps, diffusors and etc..). I've read that a hardwood floor works best in this area, but tile or some other non-carpeted surfaces will do better than carpet. My question is, for my size room will a hard surface make much of a difference in the way I hear the sounds, possibly improving mixes? Also, if there is a difference, what surface would be best and is it worth the investment? |

I just found the thread on this same subject after posting my question. One thing I didn't see answered was, are there any real concerns with using hardwood (static, cracking and creaking, etc)?

That's a small room - I think you would be advised to make it very dead. It's the large rooms that go for wooden floors - and they have extensive sound treatment everywhere else.

Wood flooring is the best way to go, dont try and save a few pennys on the fake stuff. If you want it deader just use a throw rug concrete will sound the same ........ just paint it and there you go The reason you dont want installed carpet is the cleaning part

when I built my room in the basement I did Dricore subfloor http://www.dricore.com Put laminate flooring on top,$1/sq foot from lowe's, and a rug in the back works fine for me, way warmer than painted cement!

I re-did my small tracking/mixing room last year (which is about the size of yours) and I used red oak flooring. My plan was to toss a rug on the floor, but after I was done putting up the Auralex (yeah, I know, but thats another thread), it sounded great so I never used a rug. ![]() Good luck with your room!
