2 good converters, do i use them for kick and snare or overheads?

I am in the process of probably getting an apogee rosetta 200 and the rest i will record out of a presonus firepod. When i go to record drums i've been wondering what would benefit me more. using the 2 good converters for recording the overheads on drums or using them for a nice Kick and snare sound.

Isn't bad conversion more noticable in higher frequencies? my heart says kick and snare, my brain says overheads.

help. thanks. jon.

+3 for overheads. cymbals show up the weaknesses in converters like nobody's business.

i had some sort of brain aneurysm at a remote session recently and set my 2 good preamps to be kick and snare. i found myself pretty confused once the pot wore off and i realized they were both at 0db of gain with 10db a pad engaged. meanwhile my overheads were probably getting somewhere in the neighborhood of 20db...

You might aswell be better off tracking your entire kit through the same converter.

Conversion latency in different converters is slightly different and if you put your OH's through a different one than the rest of the kit you might be introducing phase problems.

Try to output a stereo track with the left side going through an Apogee and the right side through a RME and you'll see what I mean.

Before I got the bottom of the thread I was thinking the same thing. As engineers we should be spending lots of time positioning mics. Adding or subtracking latency to the OH's would be like taking the mic and moving it. So I suggest running the drums through the same converter.

ooo. maybe i should rethink the rosetta 200 then. maybe a used lynx aurora 8 would suit me better. Thanks for the advice.
