UAD plugs must-haves

Hi Guys,
Just bought a Flexi-Pak and am wondering which extra plugs to get-up to $500 worth.
Which ones are the must-haves?
Thanks in advances. Cheers.

Everything Neve.. Must Have.
Dude these are the bomb EQ's and that 33609 comp snaps like nothin' else. For the right purpose.

The Plate 140 is awesome.. just the right blend of tone and transparency.

The Pultec is a must have too.

Of course still lovin the other comps.. Fairchild, LA-2A, 1176.

Not much of a Roland guy here.. prefer the EQ's & Comps instead of FX.

I guess it depends on what you need/want it for.

looks like you're going to get more for your money this month. they just announced a sale:

Hello UAD Fans,

Twenty Percent Off
We are happy to announce that everything in the my.uaudio.com store is 20% off the regular price during the month of March. That’s right, even the Neve 1081 is 20% off! If you’ve been missing any Powered Plug-Ins, now is the time to get them!

Twenty Five Dollar Coupons for each UAD Card
Not convinced? In addition to the 20% off, we’re sending UAD owners a coupon code, worth $25 per UAD card they own, up to four cards. That’s up to $100 in additional savings over the already ridiculously low 20% off prices!

The coupon code is automatically assigned if you are a current UAD owner.

Thirty Days to Act
What’s the catch? You only have 30 days to act- this promotion ends March 31st, 2007 at midnight, Pacific Time.

Thanks!
The UA Team

I'm a big fan of:

LA2A
1176LN
Precision EQ
Neve 1081
Pultec Pro
Cambridge (for the filters)

Looks like I'm going to have to pick up Plate 140 since it will only cost me $45 during the current sale. Score!

Pultec
Plate 140

I'm sure that after purchasing Neves they'll sit on the top of the list.

Hey guys,
Thanks to all for your responses. I can see a few common favourites here so will have to get those first.
I can also see that $500 won't cover all of the plugs mentioned, so, in true GS style will have to start saving for the rest!
Dammit I want 'em all! Lol!
Cheers.

These are the ones I use all the time, in no particular order:

- Plate 140
- LA-2A
- Precision Limiter
- 1176s

I have not tried the Neve's yet. Tempted to, since the new promotion. I also use the Cambridge quite a bit, especially for the filters, but am using it less and less since I started using Duende. It's really nice to gave all that filtering/EQ/comp available with no hit to the CPU! But I could not live without the plugs I listed above.

Let us know what you get and which ones you become hopelessly addicted to.

Just tried the 140 Plate. Have to have the 140 Plate. Wow! Got to be one of the best if not THE BEST reverb plugin. Maybe it's because I've never had a great plate before this but I can hear this thing on a lot of my work. Got to buy it - and when I got the email late yesterday it was too good to be true. I was just ready to pull the trigger on it. Anyway, (who cares Robert) - my list of must haves are - Fairchild, LA2A, Cambridge, Pultec Pro. They're the first level of must haves. Then right behind them are the 3 Precision pieces, 1176, Dreamverb (a very nice reverb). I don't use Nigel really. What do you guys think about the Neve comp, the 33609? I am looking at getting a serious mix bus comp to compliment my VariMu. Will the Neve give me anything like say a C2 or Roll 755?

1. LA2-a
2. 1176
3. Precision Limiter
4. Pultec
5. Neve 1073
6. Plate 140

Thye rest are all terrific also except the Cambridge and Dreamverb, both not up to the level of the others IMHO.

The filters on Cambridge are quite useful despite the rest of it just being okay. I can't think of any other VST plugin that gives you that much flexibility for low and high pass filters.

Remember you get 2 week trials on all of the UAD plugins when you buy a card. Click open the UAD icon and go in and you can unlock 1 or all the plugins at a time. What is great/expensive is that all the VST are great. I think it's easier to go to the ones I use the least. The Rolands are good but I find I only use the Dimension D often. It is the most usable Chorus ever I think. The CE-1 and the Tape Echo are good but I don't use them as much. The Neve stuff is the best in the bundle I think. Everybody loves the Plate 140 but I haven't got too much use out of it yet. The Mastering suite is very good and usable. Good luck, try everything out before you buy. You will know almost immediately that you need to save up some more money because the G.A.S. is coming. Good luck...

There are some good indications that UAD will do a Helios Type 69 console EQ next....

Would anyone care to say which, between the 1073 and the 1081, they'd pick, if they could only have one of the two?

Also, how do these UAD versions compare with the URS equivalents? (Or the Waves versions, for that matter...)

The 1073 has some lovely Mojo going on
In comparision to the URS the UAD stuff does a better job but you will not be able to run loads of them

yeah, that's part of the problem...only one UAD card and no free PCI slots... isn't it ironic that what was originally released to greatly increase the computing power available at the time (the UAD hardware) has become instead an impediment to using the (native) resources that are so abundant now to run their software.

What do you guys use for EQ? I use the Cambridge but it looks like almost everybody is saying it's no good except for the filters. Are you just using the Neve plugs instead, or something Native?

I'd love to get the Neve eq's but damn. I really don't like being able to run only a couple. I'm already maxing out my UAD-1 as it is.

To me the cambridge are very versatile, not just for their filters......

The Cambridge is a cool EQ. I liked it better than the Waves stuff. The Plate 140 is phenominal. I really like all the comps the 1176LN and LA2A are very nice. Oh, and the Fairchild. I also really like the Precision Limiter. It sounds nice.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for all your varied feedback/experiences on this.
It's looking like maybe the la-2a ($119.20 on special till the end of the month), plate 140 (same), pultec pro ($63.20), that's three hundred dollars-

now, for the other two hundred, I'm thinking maybe something for the two-bus, maybe the Neve 33609 (on special at $199 each), Precision multiband, Precision limiter or the Fairchild.

Just need something to start and will no doubt get a second card and maybe explore the 1073 etc. down the track.

Any thoughts?
Thanking you,

Thanks man! I really appreciate the compliment. And those clips are kind of old too.

Rossco--I would seriously consider the Precision EQ instead of the limiter or multiband if I were you. It has become my bread and butter EQ along with the Neve 1081. For 2-buss you may want to looking to PSP MasterComp or the Waves SSL Stereo Compressor.
