Is Eisen Out of Town?

Sent a PM and an e-mail cause I want to buy some of his super amazing gear and I haven't heard back yet :( I'm sure he's just busy or something, but I'd love to get my hands on some new diy gear to build!!!

i would imagine his email is ridiculously backed up at this point from all the buzz around here and other sites.

anyone knows if he can basically mod any preamp?? I'd love to stick some new opamps and trannys in a CL 7602 !! (and secretly ask to paint the gain knob red)

I'm always reluctant to modify gear, as I think it's often a waste of time/money. Usually, I'd rather just build something from scratch which already has the feature set and performance that the customer wanted the mods to accomplish, so long as the cost is justifiable. When I do modify gear, it's because both the relative and monetary worth of the item can merit expensive retrofit work being done; for instance, upgrading the functional facilities of some rare and awsome-sounding mixing console from the 60s/70s, or adding comprehensive attack+release controls to a pricey vintage broadcast limiter. A low-cost and currently manufactured product such as the CL 7602 doesn't meet these requirements. To expound...

In the case of the CL 7602, the amplifiers are serial feedback type made up of many individual components, not all-in-one op amps, and they're all built on individual PCBs with hand-wired edge connectors, very much like a Neve 1073 (but different pin spacing if I recall correctly). I can't see the low cost of this unit meriting a retrofit PCB needed to socket op amps and such. Also, the transformer packages are not ones I normally deal with, so the mounting of new devices would cost more.

Meanwhile, for ~$425 USD, I could build a new 500 Series mic pre with the characteristics you'd mentioned in your e-mail, and then you could just use the line input on your CL 7602 and get back to recording.

Yes, unfortunately your case is symptomatic of my ongoing correspondance difficiencies. At present, Eisen Audio is a one man show juggling several activities, and while I make sure to read every single e-mail and PM that comes in, I don't always have time for an immediate response. Then while I'm at the work bech or out doing filed service a whole slew of new messages will come in, and the older ones can get lost for a week or more.

As soon as I'm able to focus solely on manufacturing and hire some help, I anticipate the response times becoming much quicker and consistent. In the meantime, sending multiple e-mails or catching me on the telepohne are good fail-safes. I have a great appreciation for people who know what they want, and are patient and persistent in trying to obtain it!

thekak, I will locate and respond to your inquiry sometime today. To everyone who has had trouble getting in touch, I'm sorry. Don't give up yet! Thanks!

I'm still waiting on my response from a week ago. But it's worth it.
