Joel Patterson's review got me all hyped on these. However, I can't find much from other users. Does anyone have these, or can point at some recordings done with them?

Microphone Clips and Audio Samples at ***************.com

The entire Avant line, same session, same position, same sources.

Pictures are not up yet, or session notes.

Enjoy!

Man that Studio Auditions mic shootout is becoming massive. It's at least three times the size of when I last checked it out. It's way better now. Is this now the biggest mic shootout online? It's also nice that they have five different sources for most of the mics. Great work!

We are at over 220 microphones / mic-capsule combinations used on multiple sources in most cases. Crazy, I feel like we are just seeing the tip of the iceberg! There is another site claiming "over 200 microphones and 100 preamps, and we're just getting started" but I just counted...39 mics used total on all mic comparison sessions. So, we're over 5 times larger and with more sources than the next closest site? We have not touched preamp comparisons though, and likely won't for quite some time. We use Earthworks preamps when comparing mics.

Just got done adding 40 more mics last week, pictures and session notes coming soon. The session notes are important, as it is impossible to keep everything to one session and you need to know when you are comparing one session to another. The pictures are important too, letting you know where the mic was in the room.

I'm trying to move on to some outboard comparisons, compressors and EQ's, in the very near future. The nice thing about those is, once I figure out the parameters to compare I don't have to worry about performances from artists and can run pre-recorded material through once it's set up right. I can then add one box at a time as they become available, since the same sort of time and planning is not required. I really want to get on compressors!!!

Great work, looking forward to hearing some of those new mics. Good point about the pictures. Many people, including myself appreciate being to hear and compare mics that we don't have access to, instead of just reading the review and hearing the buzz about them. Thanks again.
