Guitar sound - please help me get this tone

I like the sound of the guitar on this tune "Jo Angelyn".

Can someone have a listen and help me figure out how to reproduce with real gear (no software).

Thanks!

What gear do you have access to?

To me it sounds like a gibson es 355 type guitar, through a tube amp, with very little gain. Get your hands on a hollow body sort of guitar, and a good tube amp, like a vox.

Yup. Hollow body 335 thinline type, tube amp, the classic blues sound. Amp sounds like a 6A6 type - little to no gain. HEADROOM is the key with tone like this. Get a little tube amp ( between 5 -15 watts), tube rectified, and you'll be there.

But remember: It's in the "hands" first!

since the cd cover is a 335 type guitar, I'd start there. The amp is very Fendery. Actually, I can get tones out of my Fender Blues Jr. like that. It's a fat sounding little bugger at low gain settings.

Thanks Guys! I have the ES-335, so now I just need a tube amp.

maybe try demoing an orange tiny terror. I saw a blues band last week and the lead guitarist had a Les Paul with a tiny-terror and a 1x12 cab. Sounded huge!

Yeah es-335 for sure. I totally disagree about the small amp, tube rectifier thing though.

I would say tone wise the closest you'll get would be a vintage black face Twin reverb, or a Black or Blonde Bassman-definitely a larger Solid state rectified fender . These amps may be difficult and costly to obtain. As great as voxes and oranges are-this tone is so opposite of what those amps do well.

in the under $500 dollar range I would find a sovtek mig 50 (without master volume), and tubescreamer, fulltone ocd or fulldrive. A Dr Z route 66 may cop this tone well also.

Of course, If you have the dough find a blonde bassman-best clean blues tone I have heard in my life. My Bassman can really nail that tone your after.

cheers

you guys dont think you can get this sound or something similar with a strat? im pretty sure you can...i think the amp might be more important here for this tone.
