Thread Starter | I need to find a Cheap microphone that sounds almost identical to a neumann TLM 103
I have a neumann TLM 103, and i would like to have another, but god forbid that requires money, does anyone have any suggestions on a mic that would do the job well? Any help would be great. BTW, i know the 103 isnt too great but, im stuck with it for now...

It won't be "identical", but I suppose the closest budget condensers with a somewhat similar type sound would be the Studio Projects C1 and C3. While they are both good mics IMHO, I prefer the C3 as it has a flatter top end response than the C1. Either way you could also use a parametric EQ to get things as close as possible. Chris P.S. I think the TLM is a pretty nice microphone BTW. |

microtech gefell has some very nice mic's. especially the m930 is a very nice mic for it's price. I've worked with it for a couple of times and really liked the results. in a sound on sound review they compared it to the tlm 103 and found that it sounded very similar. http://www.microtechgefell.de/ |

Look at the Shure KSM 27 - its not a TL103 but it will get you somewhat close.... YMMV |

It depends a great deal on exactly what you want to record. It's not uncommon for two different mikes to sound amazingly similar on one thing and yet completely different on another.

Why ask this? You know the answer. Nothing will sound like a TLM103 except another TLM103. If the goal is to have a stereo pair you're goal should be to save money to buy another 103. Or, sell the mic you have and get a pair of less expensive mics.

Try the rode NT 1000. It sounds very close to the 103. The difference that I found was the output wasn't as hot and there isnt as much of an extreme low end (sub area).

In the spirit of the thread, I'm looking for a cheap Ford that has exactly the same looks and performance as a Lamborghini.... |

| I need to find a Cheap microphone that sounds almost identical to a neumann TLM 103 Having used nearly every budget large condenser mic on the market in the last year, if you want a mic that sounds "almost identical to a Neumann TLM 103" then you need to get another TLM103.
