Thread Starter | WAVES alternative plugins
Following an excellent suggestion by Scott Petito in this thread, it would be helpful to know equal or (in your opinion) better plugins as Waves alternatives.
For example:
Waves RenComp - [equal or better alternative plugin here]
Waves RenVox - [equal or better alternative plugin here]

RenComp- URS 1980, PSP Mixpressor (both different, but I'd easly use them as a replacement)
R Vox- UAD-1 LA2A

I'm a big fan of Kjaerhus plugins.
Their Gold series compressors/limiters and eq are better than their Waves equivalents imho.
Just nothing beats R-vox on vocals.

It is a good idea.
You just need to start with a list of all the current Waves plugins and let people keep adding their alternatives to the list.
Good Luck.

I relax in calm waters (no Waves, get it? ), by relying primarily on UAD-1 plug-ins. And when I want to stay native, Voxengo. I own every Voxengo plug-in, and I've always been happy with the results.

The PSP stuff is great. I have the Total Pack. The Voxengo stuff fills in the gaps - and I like the odd Kjaerhus plugin.

Just got the Massey Limiter and its out of control good.
Elemental Audio (Roger Nichols) Eqium destroys Q10 in every conceivable way.
The only Waves I still use are the Linear Multiband and the Rverb. I plan on replacing the multiband with Wave Arts (although I haven't demoed it yet) and moving to outboard for all verb duties.
I may be in the minority here, but I feel the Digidesign Digirack Compressor is pretty freaking good, and pretty much remains my go-to ITB comp.

RenVox is really the only Waves plugin I reallly like. I wish I could find an alternative to that one.
The Massey CT4 is a great replacement for RenComp.
I have a new rig on the way and I am hoping I do not need to the Waves.
Great Thread!

S1 Stereo Imager | Not direct replacements for every one of those per se, but Eventide Anthology II and GRM Tools will do the trick.

unfortunately, I have found no replacement for the RenDeEsser. I've tried everything (for ProTools HD) and nothing gets as close to my 902's than the waves - which sound and behave almost exact by the way. Bummer - had to shell out...
C'mon Steven Massey! You can do it!

No one ever mentions these plugs, but Metaflanger, Enigma and Mondomod are some of the main Waves plugs that I use very frequently. Also RenComp.
Seems to be bulk replacements for their EQ and Dynamics plugs, but not their Modulation plugs. :(

The modulation stuff that some of the GRM Tools plugins do is simply sick! You can also do a lot of crazy modulation fx with the other Eventide plugins like H3000 Factory, Octavox, etc. Actually I'm not a fan of the Waves modulation plugins that much any more.
For RenComp I agree about the Massey CT4, there's also TL Aggro (which Massey had a hand in) and Smack.

Iq4 is currently the only usable deesser for me. IMHO other deesser (like waves) kill the voice (if it's in split mode) or the intelligibility (if it's in wide band mode). Actually, iq4 is not really a desser, it's a dynamic eq. Easy, very effective and transparent.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> You can download it here: http://www.platinumears.com/IQ4gui.zip Deessers really bugs me but this one is the best solution I found so fare. |

The DPP stuff appears to have not been updated since 2005. I guess this means no UB versions for Mac, eh?

I can still run all the DPP stuff on my XP box.
Hopefully, Sasha will port his Samplitude plugs to UB Mac, though.
