music and lyrics

so I took my wife out last night to the movies...saw MUSIC AND LYRICS...I liked it...it pokes some fun at the biz and has some funny 80's stuff...good movie for anyone who's a songwriter...even has a scene with a home based pro-tools rig! I give it a thumbs up...anyone else seen it?

I will rent it on DVD, but I'll have a difficult time buying Hugh Grant as a songwriter (if that's what he plays).

Gotta see it though, if only for curiosity sake.

If you ignore the paper-thin plot, the movie is really, really funny. Hugh Grant as 80's-icon-turned-"retro"-performer/songwriter-trying-to-break-through-again is MUCH more believable than you'd expect. He's either doing many of the "hand shots" on the piano or they got some amazing CGI going -- yeah, the "muso"-piano-doodling stuff does the typical "actor's hands hiding behind the piano" thing, but they don't rely on that. The shots didn't feel "forced" or unnatural.

The banter and nonstop one-liners carry the movie.

Wasn't this already done with Rock Hudson and Doris Day?
