You have two different issues here.

First...hook midi out on the MPC into midi IN on the keys.

And vice versa.

That will let you PLAY the keyboard from the pads. OR you can take the audio outs of the keyboard and plug them into the sampler inputs of the MPC. That would let you sample the keys into the MPC. Then you could put those samples onto the pads as audio, not midi.

Either way will work. you need to understand midi....it isn't audio.

Help!!!!

I own an MPC 1K, Motif 6 and Pro Tools interface, and a Mackie Big Knob as my mixer. Right now I have the MIDI IN 1 connected to the Motif MIDI OUT and the MPC MIDI OUT A connected to the MOTIF MIDI IN, from the MOTIF I have the the Output (stereo) going into the interface Inputs 1 and 2 (1/4"), but when I record into Pro Tools...I am only getting the Motif to play and the drums I have on the MPC will not play. Can you help? Are there certain buttons to be pushed in or cables needing to go places? Do you guys have a video for this? I'm trying to find out how to get everything to record stereo into Pro Tools

^ Well first, you have to get the audio from the MPC into Pro Tools, and since MIDI is MIDI, not audio, it can't get to the Pro Tools via the keyboard. You need to take the stereo out from the MPC, and plug it into a separate pair of inputs on your interface.

The only use of MIDI between the MPC and Motif is so you can play the keyboard sounds on the pads, or play the MPC sounds on the keyboard (why you'd want to do that, I don't know).

Otherwise, if your Motif is set up as a MIDI interface, you could also slave the MIDI from the MPC, so everything is clocked off the MPC, but that's a whole other thread :)
