The only Orange County comp I've ever seen is an exact copy of a ADR Compex Limiter. Sounded exactly like one as well. Pretty cool on some things, drum o/h's, room mics, really trashing things up. Not transparent at all. Definitely a color piece. I don't know how they never got sued by ADR, or maybe they did, I don't know anything about the company. Hope that helps. Jeff

Thanks, I've never really heard of them before until I met this guy selling some old gear. He says they were pretty good back in the day, whenever that was. Couldn't find out anything about them in any internet searches yet.

Do a search for ADR Compex Limiter Fx-760 (?). It should turn up something. You can use that for comparison since they are exactly the same. Oceanway has some of the Orange County units, maybe look on their website (if they have one). If it was priced right, I'd definitely buy it. I wouldn't spend more than $350-$400 for one, at the outside. Jeff

Hmmm, I don't know what the going rate for one is, I know that that's all I would spend for one. I've never tried a Compex Lim on the mix buss, but just thinking about it, it seems to me that it would be awfully noticeable. Maybe in a good way, I don't know. I've got a Vocal Stresser, which is one half of a Compex plus a four band eq, which is a great piece, but not a great-on-everything-piece. As Fletcher says ...YMMV Jeff

I have had the luck to see hear and use a couple of old orange county comps in Britich Columbia They were a bit tired.. but the story is true they were sued by ADR. The story I heard was they were indentical// word has it , they were made in I think Winnipeg Manitoba. I had the luck to meet a fella who claims to have been on the build team . he knew them inside out. colorfull sound . I liked them for that reason sometimes equipment is the star. The talent.........

ADR took them to court for cloning their products.
