Thread Starter | dubbing VS doubling hi. I hear different people say different things about doubling and dubbing are there actually any difference between the two? I mean if you double a guitar part you play exactly the same one more time. whats the definision of dubbing? same? or is it dubbing if you harmonize it or play some sort of difference from the original, but with the same musical function? thanks |

| I'm pretty sure that "dubbing" is when you play a part over again and "dub" it in to the first track to fix any mistakes. So, you replace the first part's mistakes. Whereas doubling is just playing the same part (or singing the same part) twice and playing both back in the mix. |

| Acording to here, dub is short for double anyway! Quote:
Overdub is derived from dub, so it really means over doubling! The name 'Double bass' could have come about because the double bass was originally used to double the cello part an octave lower.
