Folk Implosion's Natural One

Does anyone know how and where Folk Implosion's Natural One was recorded?

I thought the FI stuff was done at Lou's house. Great song.

The entire "Kids" soundtrack is pretty great. Daniel Johnson's "Casper" is also excellent.

Yeah, I love the Kids' soundtrack too. One of the few compilations that I can spin and listen to the end. Great sequence, great tracks, great flow. Really captures a time and mood for me.

And 'Casper' is awesome! Anyone know how that was recorded? Mics, pres, gear? (That's a sarcasm smiley, folks!)

yes! that soundtrack is one my favorites. great overall vibe to the record. lo-fi 1994 at its best from the noisey stuff, to the hiphop track to the technical indie rock gem by slint.

id say its safe to say that 'natural one' was probably recorded in a location outside of a conventional studio. just has that vibe to it.

Hmm, I worked at The Fort for a while back in those days.
I'm pretty sure that one was Wally Gagel. He got a gig mixing a Stones track because of it. I want to say it was at The Fort, The desk may have been a Neotek, I don't know if the Neve was there yet.

The Fort was a hot place for a while. Paul, Sean Slade, Wally, Lou, Tim O'heir, Matt E.

By the way, Paul K is still working out of the second Fort room in Cambridge. You can hear a couple songs (Give, Way Down) he did for us there at the link below. His desk is a Tweed, some Neve offshoot. We used a u67 on vocals and an Evil Twin DI for bass (no amp) I brought in my Roland 201 for Vocal effects. Please forgive the shameless self promotion if you can.

You may be able to ask Matt Ellard , he was around as the house engineer then I think.

Thank you for the replies. I'm trying to contact the Fort Apache email address and Wally Gagel to get some info. If no luck there, I'll try Matt Ellard.

I was driving the other day when the song came on one of the local radio stations. I had completely forgotten about it and the Kid's album, though it had really stood out to me back then. I like the sound and am hoping to learn more about it.

Bringing back a very old thread, as I heard the song today and am very curious about whether the snare sound is all natural reverb. Anybody around here know the answer?

Here's the tune:
Natural One US Natural One by Folk Implosion @ ARTISTdirect.com
