Does a Sub really help in a small mix room? In a small control room...will the addition of a sub give you more of an idea of the first 2 octaves at nearfiled range. I find that even with the room trapped, I still have to check out the lows in another room and at the back of the mxing room. I know mostsay you need to monitor about 38% into the room. Will the sub just further excentuane the peeks and valleys or give some help close range? I have NS 10's, KRK V4's and Dyn 15a's. They all have a purpose in my little mix room but I can't crank the Dynes too much to hear the lows. They excite the room. The V4's are great for crankng to hear the low mids and are the honky yamaha's. Any input? Tim

Ravian- Cool. Is that thing adjustable? I was heading toward the Adam A7/Sub 8 route. Tim

| Lives for gear | I use a pair of BM6a's in a 28' x 13' x 7.5' room. The BM6a's have a really tight bottom end but don't go low enough to do the breaks/drum n bass stuff I do. I paired them with a Tannoy TS10. Really happy with it. Without spending thousands on treating the ultra lows in my room, I really don't see the need to get anything more powerful. If anything more bass would cause problems I think. The TS10 really gives it all a kick in the guts. Jim |

I'm using the same Tannoy TS10 sub with my Focal Solo6 monitors and it certainly does help with the low end. I've also trapped my room quite well but it's doomed with all the soffits along the ceiling corners and such. To my surprise the mix position at 38% or whatever sounded worse. I'm in the middle of my room. But it sounds best so f@ck it.

I grabbed a KRK RP10s sub from GC for 269.00 as an experiment. Played around with the thing yesterday playing favorite cd's as reference to get the sub sounding right in mix position. Just filling the bottom 2 octaves.... or that's what it felt like.....Made it a little more fun to mix on the KRK V4' and NS 10's....could hear low mids which lack on the Dyn 15a's.... did not use the sub with the dyns. ran a few mixes to the car and felt was in the same ballpark. Conclusion: The sub sounded good for me in my small screwed up trapped room but was wacky sounding to the people behind me on the couch 6 ft away. It definity excited the room more han the Dyn's...in the 60-80 hz zone. Still playing with the settings.....wondering if I was to grab an Adam's A7/sub 8 or the Genelec 8020 with sub......would they integrate easier than this KRK.... Tim

In a smaller room, the sub tends to suffer from the problem that while it might be really good EXACTLY at the mic position, it can be quite wrong elsewhere in the room. It makes it difficult to work when the band are lounging around in the corners complaining that the bass is wrong. J
