How Do You Use Your Reflexion Filter?

Just wondering what uses you've found for the SE Reflexion Filter? I've used it on vocals and today I'm going to use it while recording my Vox 4×12 cab. What do you do with yours?

I use it on cabs when I want to tighten up the room sound.

Some vocals too.

Hmmm I think I'll try mine on guitar cab with a ribbon to close out some of the room on the back side of the fig-8.

i don't have one, but it looks like it'd be great for getting really delicate, detailed vocals. slap an omni in there and scoot your vocalist in real close, then tighten up the reflexion filter so it's effectively cardioid again.

anyone tried this? does it work?

You should try one up each nostril. Much better results.

It would seem pretty awkward to use with recording acoustic guitar. SDC mics too far away, too long to be effectively used within the Filter. I suppose you could close mic with an LDC and sit close to the filter.
Anybody have any success with using it with an acoustic guitar?

We've used ours for isolating speakers in cabinets, isolating kick-drums, wacky effects with room mics and of course for vocals.

It's pretty effective at getting rid of a lot of room noise if you need to track a vocal live with the band. The A/B between with and without was remarkable.

We got a Neutrik cable that bends at a 90 degree angle to give another inch or so with longer, front-address mics (57's etc) when you jam the thing in there. I also added a washer to the mic mount to add some stability on the slide rail.

All in all, this thing is tres-cool, and I'd like us to get another one.

Alas, our next purchase is going to be a dedicated isolating, balancing power transformer. The electric company has decided that our area is a test-market for the new wave of AC-based television and internet, and it causes a horrific "frying-bacon" sound system-wide.

Thanks IPL! tutt tutt

actually i looked at one in a music store and i poked it a bit,it had a funny resonance
to me ..i mean it doesnt" ring " neutral its far to stiff..amyone else notice this colouration or is this a problem?...i would be more concerned with the back wall reflections then the front ones anyway cos i can put up a piece of foam in the front if its a problem ....and its cheaper too

Maybe they're not designed to be poked.
I find it has made a big difference in every application I have used it. I'm glad I have one and I may even get another.

BTW, I managed to come up with a much more sensible and balanced way to mount the thing on a stand using only the stock hardware but ditching a few pieces. I'll take a pic and post it if folks are interested.

Here's some pics of how I mounted mine:

It's alot less prone to tip over and it's easier to adjust.

Plus no problems putting up a popfilter in the normal way...

We've used ours on the back side of ribbons for guitar cabs, and to cut room ambience from room mics (um, that didn't work out so well... or it worked REALLY well, I should say, but it defeated the purpose of the room mic, I guess).

Just did a project where we tracked all the lead vocals in the control rooom, live, with speakers on (no phones). Korby mic, right in the middle of the room, tons of rock n roll vibe on the takes, and the bleed was really manageable. It really allowed the singer to feel less like he was in a studio, more like he was performing. I know cutting vocals in the control room isn't ground breaking, but the Reflexion Filter worked surprisiingly well to help cut the band from the vocal track.

Greetings.

Has anyone tried using one in a M/S or Blumlein setup?

That's an interesting idea, I'll get right on it!

Oh, and thanks Sekim for the pics, I just woke up and I'm trying to figure out what parts are missing.

Well, I bought johnkenn's Reflexion Filter today and used it tonight on three fiddle overdubs and two backing vocals. A definite improvement over the tracks I did in the same room without treatment. Lovin' it so far.

Has anyone had comparative experience of comparing the Pro and the Project Studio Version. The project version is half the price.

Is it worth the extra for the Pro ?

What are the differences
Build Quality? Absorption ? Portability/Lightness of construction?

Thanks
