Guitar splitting again...

I'm looking for a guitar signal splitting solution for multiple amping/DI. I know this has been covered a couple of times, but I have a few questions:

How can I use the Sansamp Bass Driver DI for this? Can I run it "naked" and split it 3 ways at a time (or two ways "clean" and one "sansampified?") What would the sonic implications of this maneuver be?

Also, what's the difference between the Sansamp Bass Driver DI and the Sansamp Para Driver DI?

Would the SmartGuitar DI be a better solution? I figure if the Sansamp could do it, I'd go for that since I could always use it for it's amp features (plus, it's cheaper!) I don't want to compromise Johnny McNo-Tone's signal, tho...

What do you guys think?

P.S. Please don't suggest the JD-7 or PCP, those things are over $1,000, and that's just insane.

I will once again tout the mighty Voodoo Labs Amp Switcher. Ground lifts, powered to buffer the signal, and level controls for each of the four outs, as well as a dedicated tuner out.

$229 at MF

Hey, thanks, DM! That one slipped thru the cracks in my previous search! So, no hum/gremlins/etc. with all 4 running, huh?

Good looking out, James! I'm glad you got this issue solved for yourself as well! Sounds like a winner.

Still interested in the answers to the Sansamp questions for posterity's sake.

I believe MW's new box does this, with extras.

There's the whole Radial line too, which is what I use. When I record though, I run direct, back out of the sound card to the reamp, to the amp for monitoring. Then I just replay the track into different amps. If I had more reamps, I'd just do the same thing.

I've had pretty good luck with it so far. It's also nice if I know I am going to use certain amps in a session, even if not all at once - I don't get hum if I have three amps connected, and only one of them on, for example. I have pretty dirty power, but it keeps the sludge to a minimum for me.

I'm still tempted to get the Radial 7 output jobby (or whatever it is) and basically hook all my main amps to it, use it kinda like a big guitar patch bay I'm using the Radial passive A/B in my live rig (wet/dry pair of VHT 100/CLs) and it works really well, too.

How about splitting the signal with-out any volume pots or anything? Can it be done with a simple "Y" cable? Or will that create noise or just not work?

I'm looking for a very basic way of doing this, out-put of a stomp-box to 2 amp's that don't have any line out's or pre-out's.

I don't have a lot of cash to spend on this but I have made more cable's than I care to admit.

Thanks for help.

I have the Radial Bigshot ABY switch. Passive, has iso transformer in case of ground issues with the 2 amps as well as phase reverse. Sound is transparent - a good thing. built like the rest of Radial's line like a tank.

$80 new.

Mine is on the top left next to the Voodoo Lab Pedal Power. Goes out to usually the Bandmaster and the Dr. Z.

Boxes from Palmer, either the two-way split
Splitter for Guitars
or
Amp Selector

You want something with a transformer in it to stay avoid ground loops. Polarity switch doesn't hurt either.

Did any of you guys notice that the OP's issue happened 5 years ago? I think he's probably found the appropriate Littlelabs device in that time...

I second that - a great little device, and the one thing that always helps when there's any hum / ground issues ... not just when 2 amps are hooked up .. have 3 in the studio, and carry one now for liveshows as well

Voodoo labs is great. The tonebone amp switcher is a good one too, not sure if it's the same company.
