ISA428 A/D converter noise-am I crazy?

Hi. I've had this 428 for about a year and a half. I've never noticed any noise coming from the ADC until tonight when I record-enabled a track. I turned the 4 preamps all the way down and shut off the preamps attached to the other 4 ADC channels, and I still heard this hissing. It wasn't registering on the the 428 meters or the DAW meters, but it was present on every channel. I would think it would show up on the DAW meters since it was audible. Are my ears just super sensitive tonight, or is there a problem here I need to address? Wha t can I do? I forsee myself entering rack cabling hell very soon.
