| stomp boxes and shiat for snares What are you using on your snares to add character. ie: what distortion pedals are you using? stomp boxes? Those boxes especially the older ones have so much character to them. Come on, bring out your hairy snare and share a couple stories. Jason

| Sans Amp PSA-1, great on drums in general, thank you Chad Blake..... PT-wise, what worked well for me with (mainly sampled) snares was using the Digi Lo-Fi plug-in, the 'noise' section can add plenty of hair....although it's not not a pedal, I also got great, wacky results by putting drum tracks thru a miked Danelectro Honeytone miniamp.... | I use a Pod XT to beef up samples all the time. Run a snare through a VOX, or an old tweed. I also use it one the rhodes and the Jupiter 8. Sounds great with both. -sm

| EH Muff-Fuzz... that tiny little box is just nasty! And Digi's LoFi plugin is surprisingly versatile on a multed snare. I use it a lot. -dave |

The Z Vex Fuzz Factory and Machine pedals have been getting used more recently here for lo fi snare duties. When I use these I usually gate the returns (not on the pedal) to sculpt the attack and release times accordingly. | |

| Lives for gear | I've used the Lovetone Wobulator (generally on the Tremulant setting) on snare a few times to get a wibbly wobbly thing happening on the tail. Other strange things I've used include and MXR envelope Filter, SPL Charisma, reamping thru a cassette deck condensor mic , Electrix Filter Factory and an Alesis 3630 (but that did nothing).

| Lives for gear | Also, I know we speak about kwality compressors here all the time but tend to use shitty comps for snares. Old Drawmers, (god forbid) Behringers, guitar compression pedals, any old shit. Another one I used with great results is the Smart C1 compressor on "Crush".

| I often send a mono drum mix out to an analog delay. When blended back with the main mix it's great for subtle dub effects, and if you overdrive the delay it adds that "scuzz" factor too. You've gotta hipass the send though, otherwise it's mud everywhere. I also like the old "drums through the mutron III" trick - can give some interesting textures, and the old mutrons can be made to distort nicely. entropy, I _love_ the wobulator too. Took me about 2 years to figure out how to use it properly, but it's great on so many things - try it on background vox, for instance. |

Mate, I think that's about the funniest non-joke sentence I've read in a while. Is that a PT thing? Cos I gotta check it out, even if just for the name!

| pink noise filtered and notched at around 5k through a noise gate triggered by the snare. set the release time to about a 16th note to the session bpm. keep it low and gives a great snap to a snare....old trick.

| I run all sorts of audio (drums, keys, vox, etc...) through the Dave Smith Evolver ... It's a very cool signal processor and a killer (analog!) lead synth/sequencer...
