| I recorded some voiceover at a friends place (near the big telecom tower ;-( ) with my CMV563+M7+original PSU. Really nice sound, but the problem was it recieves radio there. Is there any way to make it stop? Shielding? I have to admit I had to run the cables long (and I didn't try it with cables half-rolled). During the speach it was "OK", but it is clearly audible in the pauses after compression. I had to do serious fader-runs before it is out. Thanks for suggestions.

| Star quad cable could help, so could putting the pre closer to the mic. |

| starquad? what's that? at one movie music studio here they are using aluminium foil to cover the microphone connectors, thay say it is shielding against mobile phones... maybe I could try this.

| Are you using the original mic cable? You might want to replace it with a good piece of Gotham GAC-5, or some of the BLUE stuff(?).. and if it's also the original power supply, replacing the power recepticle with a grounded IEC, and tying the ground properly to the chassis could help, although you may also need to look at the caps in the power supply... AAH! I only half-know what the hell I'm talking about... .. Just send it up to Tracy Korby for some medical attention. It really should be plenty resistant to RF under normal circumstances (ie if none of your other gear is picking up radio incessantly). -dave ps: "star-quad" mic cables have a twisted pair of seperately insulated conductors for each leg, and thus 4 conductors (plus shield) per cable. When freshly cut, the cross-section has a star-ish pattern. For reasons I couldn't explain, the twisted pairs are more resistant to RFI than singles. |

| I have a CMV 563 with 55 capsule and a UM 57. the UM 57 has a much lower output than the CMV, Although the mic electronics are the same on both mics. I switched the tubes but no luck. Is this the nature of the UM 57 head ?

| It's an old supply, but with XLR and multipin retrofit. Cables are new and 5 meters long (both of them). Sending the supply to the Tracy is nice idea, but when living in europe it is not an option. I don't have these problems at my place, so I'm not going to do any stunts. However, new powersupply from germany looks like the path, because only thing the CMV lacks is the highs... could be a bit more open... UM57? Yes it has lower output by specs. The picture is taken from an old czech book about microphones.
