Pro Ac monitors thoughts

Hi Guys,

I've recently come to the conclusion that a lot of my favourite mixers/producers use Pro Ac 100's ...be they Husky Hoskulds and Craig Street, Rick Rubin or Michael Brauer.

At the moment I'm a pretty small operation running Event TR5'S, some fairly large technics hi-fi speakers and some small harmon Kardon speakers. I quite like the Events but am thinking I may want to move to something a bit larger. I am constantly going back and forth between all sets of speakers, which is good practice but I would like to find a set of monitors I can rely on to get consistent mix results. I have also been thinking of NS-10's purely due to the mix translation results of using those monitors.

My question is are there other smaller (cheaper) proac's worth considering for studio use?

i love my pro ac 100's

i have sold everything else

i would recommend them highly

as you are in the uk, the price may well be more reasonable

they are as objective to me as my now sold ns 10's,

but they are very nice to listen to....

be well

i've been mixing on them for so long i can't remember when I first got them, it was probably sometime in the early 90's. Joe Ferla turned me on to them. I've A/B'd them for years against other speakers and have not yet found another pair that I would consider as good for my ears. Having said that, I don't rely just on the ProAcs,I also have a boom box(got it in Japan years ago, can't be found anymore) that I spend time mixing on and between the two references, I'm happy with the result every time. Thanks Michael for your input, they obviously work for you

I think I will aim to get some in the next year or so.

Does anyone have any opinions on the other pro ac's?

Michael, did Richard Rose get the chance to bring his Hot House rig to your room for a listen?

1) Pro Ac: is it true that several people have some problems with blowing woofers or something?
2) does anyone know how do Pro Ac 100 compare to K&H 300? (sonically)

yah, i tried out his mono blocks and didn't like them. I asked joe ferla about them and he said they sound much different than the 1000 amp he owns. he said that i should have listened to that one instead. why richard didn't think of giving me the one that Joe liked is a puzzle. I haven't had the chance to check out the 1000.

yes, but several haven't . If you push them too hard their gonna slowly begin to buzz. You can always fuse them if you want but it changes the sound. I have extra drivers in case one goes. Sometimes 3 o 4 months go by and all is good, it depends on the kind of music im mixing. If there is a massive amount of bottom end and I'm monitoring loud, it's gonna eventually wear out and buzz. I've been inquiring about it and the company have a couple of my blown drivers and are looking into it. But bottom line, it doesn't stop me from wanting to mix on the ProAcs. I also have a larger pair of response D center channel that sound great. But my main reference is still the 100's.
