Some killer Gretsch drums?

Drum experts and friends...

In order to raise some $$$ for a new slutty piece of gear, I am selling my 1972 Gretsch Drum kit. I just posted an ebay auction for the drums.

I would REALLY like to know more about these drums if anybody has any info on them...the ebay item number is 270085103345, where I offer a full description. Any info that you could offer would be greatly appreciated (i.e. name, model, type, pricing, blah blah blah...)

I just want to make sure that nobody scoops up a $3000 drum kit for $800tutt

The Stop Sign era Gretsch drums are some of the most sought after, especially by studio players. Unfortunately those sizes are on the large size for many studio cats. However I'm sure they sound big, bad and beautiful.
If they were 22" (or 24" even) and 13" - 16" toms they'd probably sell better.
Still it looks to be a very nice kit and someone will be very happy.
Not sure about price, but $350 is way too little and $3,000 too much IMO.

Heya. Not sure you read correctly...but the kick [I]is[I] a 24

The kick records particularly well for modern rock sounds...I have an Aquarian on the beater side...the "click" is there, with a really tight low thump...very very tight sounding. And while the rack tom records pretty well, the floor tom might be the best damn thing I've heard when mic'd up.

So hahah why am I selling them? Well, they don't get a ton of action, with most drummers wanting to use their own...and I really need to buy a new channel strip.

Thanks for the shout...anybody else?

Yeah, I read correctly.
I personally like 24's, but a lot of players prefer 22" (sometimes 20").
I got the fact you had a 24", just thought a 22" might attract more buyers.
Certainly smaller toms are preferred by many.
Anyway, no doubt a killer sounding kit.

I have a kit with 22 inch kick from the same year finished maple stain. I paid 1400 dollars for it with even a sigh. There is something amazing about the kick drum esp in those old gretsch kits. IMO a four piece kit is perfect of the studio. Thats what I have.

Cool guys, thanks for all of the responses. Yeah I would be pretty happy to get $1500 for them....

Check this out though...I paid $500 for the kit, and with them came an "anonymous" bag of cymbals. I figured I couldn't lose...and I was right. The cymbals were antique Zildjian Istanbul cymbals, probably from the early 60s. The set sold for over $2000. Talk about slutty

I got my gretsch stop sign kit for 1200, just the shells. I believe they are 22", 16", 14", and 13". it was in really, really good shape too. all I did when I got it was polish the metal and wipe down the wrapping. well, there was some pitting on one rim that I removed with a ton of elbow grease. only one rim though!!

haha...I had this kit in my "watch" list. I'd LOVE to grab a set of large stopsigns....Just not sure if I can hang with the expected price of these.

These are early 70's, as i think that is when the badge changed. Round badge is more collectable but these are a close second these days. The white finish is a bit odd. Are you sure it's not a wrap? The snare, if it's a brass powertone is worth $3-500 and 2 or 3 hundred if steel. So $1200-$1500 is reasonable if someone is interested in those sizes. 12", 14", 18" round badge kits can sell for 2 grand or more, and a good condition vintage Turkish K ride cymbal can easily go for $2000. Cracked ones that are repairable can go for $1000.

ha....I got my roundbadge snare to go with the kit for like $200 or something.... some of you may think this is dishonest but the guy listed it as a 'gretch' and I was the only bidder. just a tip.

Hey there. It definitely is not a wrap...but it isn't a finish either, it looks painted. The guy who sold them to me (who I knew, and was trustworthy) said that he bought them new, and never altered them. Strange stuff...the finish is often the most puzzling thing to people I ask.

UPDATE...Whoa I just checked the auction...51 watchers on the 2nd day...WTF

I have an old round badge snare drum that has a thin cream laquer/paint finish that also appears original. maybe Gretsch did custom finishes. i know that they didn't offer laquer finishes until the early 80's. This might make your kit more valuable.

That really sounds like mine. The finish I mean...it's a creamy off-white kind of deal...and the few spots that are dinged show what appears to be a fairly thick 'finish' on bare wood. Go figure. Thanks for the heads-up.
