Best way to sum 2-ch to mono

Are there any 2-ch balanced sum to mono boxes out there?

With modern hi-z gear you can probably sum two devices with a Y-cable or patchbay.

My Radial JDI boxes can sum two channels to mono - but that's two unbalanced channels into 1 balanced.

The existence of this product makes me thing that there's something more to it than just using a Y-cable in reverse if you want to do it "right"...but I seem to recall reading that all you need to do is throw a couple resistors in there and you're basically good...I'm sure someone who knows more than I will chime in soon.

Yeah - a nice passive transformer box like that would be ideal.

But as I understand it, as long as the input impedance of the next stage is higher than the output impedance of the preceding stage, you should be good.

Multing two preamp outputs with a splitter would alter this impedance matching. I'm not exactly sure in which direction - but if the input of the next stage is high enough impedance, I doubt it would be an issue.

When I was much younger and poorer, i used to mult several midi devices together with Y adapters and got away with it. Come to think of it - the affordable line level mixers back then were so shyte, this probably was superior.
