| Its a Herman Miller Aeron!!!! Unsurprisingly enough, in this industry plagued with industry standards, there is an industry standard chair. Its jolly nice, and everyone likes it, but its a bit expensive. If you have back problems it is NOT the chair to get...and you must get a properly sized orthopedic chair (which looks very similar). | According to the site there's a new lumbar support "plug-in"... Also, $650 is the basic model, $850 for the deluxe... FWIW, I want them to offer an add-on headrest option...!

| To be the voice of dissent here the place I work at bought boatloads of those chairs in 99'. Then they sold for $1200 each. Again got more last year at $700 each. Very trick and look nice. IMO though they are a bit too fiddly for a chair. Too many adjustments that too many don't quite get right. If you sit in one someone has ****ed with the thing might just pitch you forward or backward right back out of the chair. Then you spend the next 10-15 minutes adjusting it so it can be sat upon. In time some of those controls break. All in all I think they are more complicated than a chair needs to be. To put a good word in though. When set up they are quite comfortable and the mesh allows your skin to breathe. They are also quite modular so if you have one that starts to break you can fix them easily. I have one at home that I frankenstiened a good one out of 3 or 4 from work that had various problems. If I had to pay though I'd shop around. |

| Just to add my two cents here, if you want the really high end chair situation, try the humanscale freedom chair. very few adjustments, smaller footprint than the aeron chair, and VERY well made. these are the neve of futin' chairs man. clients are more impressed w/ the chair than with all the expensive outboard... and it has really helped my "i've been sitting in front of this damn computer mixing for way too many years" neck pains. full support in all positions- all adjustments are easily made from sitting position- neck rest rises to meet you when you recline, oh it's just dreamy. i want another. pricey though... best money i ever spent in the studio. twice the price of the aeron though. aeron just has too many adjustments for me (two many moving parts that can go wrong). definately check out www.humanscale.com - best, pramrod ![]() |

| Wurly got busy w. NAMM & micstands No sh*t Sherlock. When I first attempted to dive into the Aeron pool I was operating under a number of false assumptions. Actually two major ones, 1. Aerons sell for $1200 (an old price), and 2, shipping will be about $34 a chair. And the boxes cost $9. Shipping actually cost $50-60 per chair, and some places sell new ones for $599, including shipping. My cost per chair was $400. Some quick math shows that I was lucky to clear $35 per chair, which doesn't account for time buying boxes and packing and all of that other stuff. So I more or less broke even, and some Gearslutz got a good deal. But it was worth it to help out some fellow Gearslutz, most of whom I had the pleasure of meeting at AES. Hello Dave, Brad, and Slipperman. As for Aerons not being good for people with back problems, I beg to disagree. I have had back surgery (L4-L5), and I love my Aerons. My wife also has back issues. She always had to have two or three pillows to have most chairs work for her, but she uses her Aeron stock, w. the lumbar support, and has no problems. I'm sure that some people w. back problems might not find an Aeron suitable, but so far I haven't found that person. The problem with Aerons is that they impede neither the fragrance nor sonic impact of the dreaded control room flatulence. And you can quote me on that. Back to the micstands. | Aeron chairs rule; I have been sitting in mine for over 3 years. Fantastic investment; some of the best money I have ever spent. It is *my* ass in that chair every day after all. Everyone deserves a damn good chair in their lifetime. |
