Suggest a studio in East Sussex...

How about it? A friend of mine is going to England for a month, and would like to set up a day or two to record some new material. He'll be staying in East Sussex. He's an old kat (50+) who's been around for a while, and a really cool guy to work with. He likes to fly off the cuff, so he needs an engineer who's quick on his toes. An in-house drummer is a plus too. He's more than capable of laying down vocals, piano/synth, guitar, and bass.

So far, he's looking at "Audio Sorcery" and "Carbon Lodge."

Any other suggestions? Feel free to post or PM, I'm just doing this as a favor to him, and I'd love to send him off into the caring arms of a fellow 'Slut!

Well... how much money does he have?

Aside from there, you're really hard pressed for any top line studios. Friends of mine have recorded at Audio Sorcery, and the stuff sounds good, but it is what it is- a decent place for doing demos, run by a very competent guy- but no gear really worth mentioning around these parts.

There is a studio in Northern Kent called ten21 I think, which looks nice- but to travel there from East Sussex is just as long a trip as to central London, where there's plenty to choose from.

The Granery in Lamberhurst is excellent. It's run by a chap called Guy Denning who above being an excellent AE, is also one of the finest people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing.

Great MX-80 24 track, Mac G5 with Logic (2xHD192), and a georgeous Amek Angela. Top that off with KRK 6000 near fields and you've got your self a lovely little place.

I couldn't recommend a better place in the south of England unless you start looking at the silly money.

I used to live about 300 metres as he crow flys from there. A bit expensive from what I've heard, but I think it's more of a production studio (ie. not much space for a full band recording).

How 'bout Heliocentric in Rye, where Keane recorded their album.... or is that West Sussex?

Mike Pelanconi's studio is amazing. Went there once to chat to him. He's passionate about drums. (He's in North london though!)

No worries, this thread was meant to be hijacked by design.

I think he went with Audio Sorcery based on price and the fact that session musicians, mixing, and mastering were all included in the price.

Thanks for the help, everybody! The thread is yours!
