3-4,000 to spend.. LIL Help? By the way; I didn't stumble into free money somehow. It's tax time. Plus, I am refinancing my 2nd mortgage to do repairs on my house and finish my studio. I have to be VERY thrifty with my choices. Comptuter: Very nice, fast setup with MOTU 24 I/O and Sonar 6.0 PE Mics: 3--Senh. E-604 4--SM 58 2--SM 57 2--Oktava MK319 (M.Joly mod) (for overheads/stereo guitars) AKG D112 Homemade Subkick Studio Projects C1 SM58 Beta Monitors: M-Audio SP5B Mixer: Tascam M2600 Outboard Gear: 2--Chameleon Labs 7602 I will be building a rack of Seventh Circle pre's for drums. After my preamps are built, I will have 3-4,000 to spend. My room is treated. I will be mixing mostly ITB with maybe a little outboard bussing etc. Thanks. -Rich

I would definitely get better monitors/room treatment and then maybe one really nice mic (Peluso?) I've been on a room treatment slut fest lately and have just about finished my entire room plus (3) 4x4 gobo's out of 703 and it's made a major difference. I'm also about to get the Focal Solo6 to replace my crappy JBL 4408's. I know room treatment isn't as slutty as gear, but it will have more of an impact than a piece of gear imho.So maybe spend $1000 on monitors, $1000 on a mic, $1000 for a DAC-1 and the rest on treating the room and maybe some good cables (Mogami?) Basically make what you have the best it can be before moving on. Good luck.

I'm hoping that my Michael Joly modded 319 is going to be the vocal sound I'm looking for. I haven't been able to afford to get the 2 mics modded yet. I hear great things and there are samples all over the internet. I plan to spend 1000 or so on monitors; so we're on the same page there. I'm trying to decide if I want to upgrade my tom mics from E-604's too. I might go with the CAD179 per everyone on here who has tried them. As far as an A/D converter: would this be something to use alongside the MOTU 24 or to replace it?

I think e604's are fine and would personally hold off on that. You didn't mention anything about your room though. How big and is it treated? Thanks. | |

I just checked and the 24 i/o does not have Spdif, so you are SOL on that. ![]() I just realized you did say that your rom was treated at the bottom of your post, sorry. Get a Drawmer 1968 then ~$2000. Last edited by Slaytex; 30th January 2007 at 06:44 PM.. Reason: Misread

If you're looking at compressors I'd suggest looking at the Neve Portico 5043. It's a lovely buss compressor and dead good for tracking/mixing duties too...hell, you could afford 2 of them!

I bought a dbx 160X I bought a dbx 160X and I'm going to get one more. I've never heard anyone bash them. I'm also going to get 1 or 2 FMR RNC's. I'm still up in the air about the rest of it all.
