distortion pedals that are good w/ vocals

hi all,
i have been using an IBP for reamping purposes. i want to run some vocals through a distortion pedal as an effect for a particular track. i have an old boss hm-2. it works ok. i can get one or two sounds that might be usable. not thrilling though. are there any pedals out there that are suited much better for vocals and can give me a wider variety of sounds?

regards,
electric

The Sans Amp Classic would give you a lot of options and works very well in my experience. The Rat pedal has also done me good, but it much less versatile. The Guyatone Metal Monster kinda falls under that category too, but is nice to add in under a vocal track for more aggression.

not sure if you are mixing on an analog desk , but on an ssl g , i will often bring the vocal back on another fader patched into the mic pre and blend that in as well. ive also used the filter factory box - or in pro tools i'll try some amp simulation plug. good luck.

cool suggestions. i'll check 'em out. also, being a native pc user, not protools, are there any vst/directx distortion plugs that are worth a damn out there?if there was a good plug available out there i would check that out too.

amplitube is pretty good i think. i havent compared it to any pedals or other plugins, but it has a lot of features and sounds good.

I agree on the Original RAT . . . for vocals, you want the pedal with the LEAST amount of distortion, because a little goes a long way. Also try putting it through a speaker cab.

Ohm Force Frohmage renders some righteously sick and wicked distortion-esque effects on vocals, and damn near anything else for that matter. And the Ohm Force stuff is PC-friendly.

Happy hunting.

I did two distortion effects this weekend.

The first was for the lead singer; we took his normal vocal take and sent it out to a bass amp that he messed around with until he got the sound he wanted. Try sending the vocal take out into a crappy little amp and micing the amp.

The second was for the backing vocals; we took the recorded track and sent it DI into my Great River mp-2nv and cranked the gain for the fuzz through there.

Both turned out pretty good sounding.
